About this place
The dish that first catches the eye at Toyo is its signature seared tuna cheek. Diners have described watching it being torched in front of them as part of the experience, with the contrast between the fragrant surface and moist texture inside making a lasting impression. One guest said they ordered another portion of cheek served with refreshing ponzu. It is a dish to consider if you want to enjoy the theatre of the searing along with the flavour of the fish and a drink.
Sashimi is available as individual portions of lean tuna, fatty tuna and extra-fatty tuna. One diner who ordered a thick cut of medium-fatty tuna remarked on its satisfying heft; another enjoyed the contrast between the pronounced flavour of the lean cut and the richness of the fattier pieces. You could start with one variety or compare lean, fatty and extra-fatty tuna together.
The roll menu includes lean tuna and fatty tuna rolls, as well as eel rolls. You can build a meal around sashimi, or add rolls and grilled eel. Shellfish and crab dressed with vinegar is another option if you would like a small plate of seafood beyond tuna.
Drinks include beer, shochu and chūhai, as well as sake. The menu lists chilled sake for summer and hot sake for winter. Bear in mind that reservations are not accepted, and bring cash for your visit.
